In 2002 Craven/Huston/Powers Architects undertook the design of a chalet in the Resort Village of Sunpeaks, outside of Kamloops BC. The site of the chalet proved to be the last un-built lot in the Sunburst Drive Subdivision, remaining vacant due to the property’s extreme topography and issues of accessibility. Careful planning has produced a modest three storey vacation property, which features three separate rental suites that flow together as one. Architecturally the wood frame building is clad with a blend of cedar shingles and horizontal cedar siding. The deep roof overhangs are supported by expressive heavy timber knee braces that provide a rustic yet elegant exterior.
