International Friendship Garden

    The International Friendship Garden is situated in the City of Abbotsford’s Civic Center. The garden, which had its official opening on April 6, 2009, celebrates the multi-cultural makeup of the community as well as its link to sister city Fukagawa Japan. The garden is sited adjacent to the Clearbrook Library which overlooks the 2.5 meter high waterfall as it descends into a lower pond. The library enjoys direct access to a shaded patio/reading area adjacent to the lower pond. The formal public entry to the garden, off of George Ferguson Way, leads through a fore-court which features the Friendship Gate, a heavy timber structure with gently undulating roof line. The International Friendship Garden, with a budget of $1,000,000.00 was funded by the Province of British Columbia’s Spirit Square grant program, The City of Abbotsford, as well as community donation .
