In 2007, Craven / Huston / Powers Architects worked with the Village of Harrison Hot Springs to develop a multi-phase capital plan for redevelopment of the waterfront parkland. The first phase of this Masterplan development, Harrison Lake Plaza, saw detailed design work and implementation in 2008/09. This new public plaza officially opened in May 2009.
The Harrison Lake Plaza was funded in part by a BC Provincial Government Spirit Square grant. The project includes a major multi-use public square featuring a full-scale motif of the lake and major islands in coloured cast-in-place glass, surrounded by pre-cast concrete unit pavers. A heavy Douglas fir timber and metal shade shelter provides protection from the heat of the day.
Providing a terminus to the sole road into town with a backdrop of the lake itself, the Harrison Lake Plaza is located at the end of Harrison Hot Springs Road.
