MSA Fast Track (Emergency)
Fraser Health required a new emergency room for MSA Hospital in Abbotsford to support the needs of a growing population in the Lower Fraser Valley. With consultation from various hospital user groups and facilities staff, CHP designed and coordinated a state of the art Emergency Ward facility that provided numerous challenges in logistics and complex phasing during its construction. It was imperative that several adjacent departments were sequentially relocated/ and or renovated while remaining active to accommodate the ongoing needs of the hospital.
The scope of work involved the relocation of the existing emergency room to a nearby area of the hospital adjacent to the ambulance entry. A new large command station, meds room, isolation room, trauma room and seven patient care beds were added in the extensive renovation. Care was taken throughout the project to actively coordinate mechanical and electrical trades in order to minimize down time with building services and schedule disruptive work in non-peak hours.
Aesthetically, the building interior provides for open concept circulation with a centrally located nurses station ‘nerve centre’, Clear finish birch, flowing curved bulkheads and inviting color schemes work to make this space a little less clinical and little more comfortable for those working and receiving treatment in this environment.
Expressive design coupled with fiscal restraint’ was also a challenging goal set by the client.
